Originally from Ohio, Dr. Geddes earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University, where he graduated cum laude and served as Co-Captain of the rowing team. He went on to attend Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where he combined his passion for patient care and innovation—ultimately leading to two patented surgical devices now used in the operating room.
Dr. Geddes completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Yale University, where he contributed to numerous publications and presented his research at national meetings. A formative experience during his training was participating in a surgical mission trip to the Dominican Republic, where he treated children with severe spinal deformities. This experience solidified his decision to specialize in complex spine surgery.
He completed an advanced spine fellowship at the Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky, where he trained with both orthopaedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons. His training included a wide range of techniques, from large spinal reconstructions to minimally invasive procedures utilizing robotics and navigation.
In addition to his role as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at CHI Memorial Hospital, Dr. Geddes has been named a Top Doctor by Healthscope and Castle Connolly. He enjoys running, golf, and spending time with his wife, Rachel, and their four children—Matilda, Graham, Daphne and Helen.
