We are excited to share that Amanda Shelton, Director of Nursing at CSMO Surgery Center, has completed her nurse practitioner degree from Carson-Newman University!
Finishing her family nurse practitioner was a goal of Amanda’s since completing nursing school, but life took her down a path where caring for her family became a top priority. When her son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, her desire to complete her education grew because she wanted to have the knowledge to care for him. With the advancements in care, his lifespan is now normal, and Amanda came back to her home in the operating room with Center for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery. She notes that her family continued to push her to complete her certificate and were her biggest cheerleaders throughout the process!
“Caring for my patients one on one and being their advocate when they can’t is truly my passion. The OR nurse is a critical portion of the patients care. As my career grew, I began to find my voice in leadership advocating for both staff and patients,” says Amanda. “As we began to grow the Surgery Center I saw where I could do even more for our patients, staff, and surgeons once my Family Nurse Practitioner was completed. Serving my staff and surgeons truly brings me joy!”
“Amanda has done an outstanding job taking on the role of Director of Nursing while focusing on earning her Nurse Practitioner License. It has been an honor to encourage, pray, and now celebrate with her. She has a gift of exemplifying hard work and determination,” says Amy Smith, CSMO Surgery’s Administrative Director. “I am so excited to see her continued growth at the Surgery Center, and I feel honored to work alongside such an amazing person.”
