Kyle Kesler, MD, has quickly made a name for himself as a compassionate and caring physician. In his work as a spine surgeon, his kind and gracious approach has made an impact on his patients and coworkers alike. He was recently presented CHI Memorial’s “Marvelous Doc” Award, after one of the nursing staff shared how his concern for his patient and staff welfare throughout a long recovery process made a lasting impression!
Congratulations, Dr. Kesler!
“Dr. Kesler showed compassion and caring through a long hospitalization for one of his patients he performed surgery on. Even though his part was a success and complete, he continued checking on the patient every day, even weekends. Not only did he show compassion for his patient, he expressed excitement for all of her small and big milestones, communicated with the family, and made sure myself and all the other nurses caring for her were up to date and coping. This patient had many ups and downs that affected her whole care team. One particularly hard day, he spent twenty minutes of his busy day to ensure the nurses were coping. As a new nurse, dealing with the emotions of caring for critically ill patients can make a huge impact on our professional and even personal lives. His compassion not only was for the patient, but also extended to the nurses – and for that he deserves recognition and encouragement to never lose that side of himself in the whirlwind of healthcare.”
