“A Life-Changing Hip Replacement Experience”

“I was dealing with unbearable hip pain for years due to old sports injuries and hip dysplasia. It reached a point where the pain was so severe, it was impacting every aspect of my life. That’s when I turned to Dr. Jason Rogers at the Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics.

From the first consultation, Dr. Rogers and his team were thorough, explaining everything about the hip replacement process. The surgery itself was a huge success—within days, I could feel the difference. The bone-on-bone pain was instantly gone, and after a few weeks of physical therapy, I was walking pain-free.

I can’t thank Dr. Rogers enough. This surgery has given me a new lease on life. I’m able to be active again, walking with my family and just enjoying life without pain. If you’re hesitant about getting a hip replacement, trust me, it’s a decision that will absolutely change your life for the better.”

Quake’s Journey: From Pain to a New Lease on Life

Scott “Quake” McMahan, radio host of Chattanooga-based SportTalk on Talk!Radio 102.3, has always been an active sports enthusiast. But the physicality of his sports career – and some of the antics he was well known for – lead to increasing pain in his left hip. The combination of old sports injuries and hip dysplasia left him limping through daily life.

“I used to dive and slide playing baseball, and then we’d jump Sea-Doos—just put my body on the line without thinking twice,” Scott recalled with a smile and a hearty laugh. But the years of wear and tear finally caught up with him. The pain became debilitating. “It was to the point where I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can do this much longer.’”

Scott’s decision to visit Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics was a pivotal one. After his initial evaluation and X-rays, the answer was clear: he needed a hip replacement. “The arthritis was extreme, and I had no cartilage left. Even Dr. Rogers said, ‘We don’t often see arthritis this severe.’ There was no question—I needed the surgery, and I needed it fast.”

Scott’s surgeon, Dr. Jason Rogers, fellowship trained joint replacement surgeon with CSMO, took the time to explain every step of the procedure. “He showed me a video of the surgery process, and it was pretty eye-opening,” Scott shared. “But I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Rogers really nailed it—he even made sure my legs were equal length after the surgery, something that had bothered me for years.”

The surgery was a success, and Scott felt immediate relief from the chronic pain.

“The bone-on-bone pain was gone the moment I woke up. I could tell right away, even as my wife helped me to the car after surgery.” While the recovery wasn’t without its challenges—especially the few days after the nerve block wore off—Scott was back on his feet quickly. “Within 10 days, I wasn’t using a cane or walker anymore. I felt great and was making great progress in physical therapy.”

The transformation didn’t stop with physical healing. “The mental shift was amazing,” Scott noted. “You don’t realize how much chronic pain wears you down until it’s gone. This surgery has completely changed my life. I can walk with my wife and grandkids again, enjoy being outdoors, and live pain-free. It’s incredible.”

For Scott, the experience at Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics was nothing short of life changing. “If anyone’s hesitant about getting a hip replacement, don’t be. Yes, it’s major surgery, but it will change your life. Every person I talked to said the same thing, and they were right. I have a brand-new lease on life.”
