We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Andrew Carlone to the team at Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics! A fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in total hip and knee replacement, Dr. Carlone is now seeing patients in Cleveland — bringing advanced training, compassionate care, and a whole lot of personality to the community.
Dr. Carlone has a clear passion for helping patients regain their mobility and quality of life, especially when joint pain becomes a daily challenge. “Motion is lotion,” he said during a recent radio interview. “Staying active is a good way to help reduce knee pain and also prevent your knees from wearing out.”
While weight loss and conservative therapies can go a long way, Dr. Carlone emphasizes that surgical options like joint replacement are never rushed. “I tell my patients, you never need a knee replacement. It’s an option — not a requirement,” he said. “We do everything possible before going to surgery.”
Dr. Carlone is also excited about the strides made in minimally invasive joint replacement techniques. “Most hip and knee replacements take less than an hour. And many of our patients go home the same day, recovering in their own beds. That’s a huge advancement in orthopaedic surgery,” he explained.
While many patients are older adults, younger individuals — especially athletes or those with underlying joint issues like hip dysplasia — can also benefit. “I’ve seen soccer players with early arthritis from multiple ACL injuries,” said Dr. Carlone. “In the right cases, even people in their 40s can be good candidates for joint replacement.”
For patients wondering about double joint replacements, Dr. Carlone confirms it’s possible. “I’ve had many patients say, ‘Just do both!’ While it’s a tougher recovery, it can be the right option for healthy, active individuals.”
Dr. Carlone grew up just outside Atlanta in Stone Mountain and completed his undergraduate studies at Emory University, followed by medical school at Mercer and fellowship training in total joints. His return to the Southeast reflects his commitment to community care — and Cleveland is already benefitting from his expertise and energy.
“I always thought my orthopedic surgeons were the coolest guys I ever met,” he said with a laugh. Now, he’s paying it forward — helping people get back on their feet and into the activities they love.
