Dr. Ronald Jacob Mitchell is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery. He provides comprehensive care for patients with conditions and injuries affecting the shoulder, elbow, arm, wrist, and hand.
Dr. Mitchell brings more than a decade of experience caring for patients with complex musculoskeletal injuries. Before joining Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics, he served as an orthopaedic surgeon and department head in the United States Navy, where his military career took him from North Carolina to Naples, Italy, and Afghanistan. His experience included providing care in both advanced medical centers and austere combat environments. He received numerous military commendations, including the Navy Commendation Medal with combat “C” device.
In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Mitchell earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. His research has been published in leading orthopaedic and sports medicine journals, with a focus on innovative surgical techniques and outcomes for athletes. He is dedicated to helping patients regain function and return to the activities they enjoy most.
