CSMO Welcomes Dr. Lotufo

Christopher D. Lotufo, DPM, was born in New York and at a young age moved to Florida where he grew up. Many of his favorite days of his childhood were spent fishing in the Everglades and off shore in the Atlantic ocean. He enjoyed playing travel soccer up until his college days. Dr. Lotufo attended Barry University, along with our own Dr. Jason Wamack, where he received his medical degree in podiatric medicine in 1997. He completed his residency at West Side Regional Medical Center and was in private practice near Atlanta, Georgia, prior to joining Vancouver Clinic. He is board certified in foot surgery, reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. His medical special interests are in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, arthroscopic foot and ankle surgery, and total ankle replacement.

Dr. Lotufo is heavily involved in making a difference by participating in leadership positions with national organizations related to foot and ankle surgery. He served as a member of the board of directors and was past president of the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) and is the current chair of the Longitudinal Education and Assessment for Diplomates Continuous Certification Committee. He is a case reviewer with ABFAS and reviews candidate’s surgical cases who are sitting for their board certification exam. Along with current chairs and past presidents, he serves on the Exam Oversight Committee playing a vital role in the oversight of the current examinations offered by ABFAS.

As a current member of the board of directors with the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), he is a faculty instructor focusing on Arthroscopy and frequently presents lectures at their national conference and local courses. Dr. Lotufo was a previous member and chair of the Surgical Skills Committee with ACFAS. Depuy and Novastep, global device companies who develop products for the bones, joints and soft tissues of the foot and ankle, are fortunate to have Dr. Lotufo as a consultant. He recently completed a multi-center research project with Organogenesis that pertained to plantar fasciitis and amniotic stem cell injection therapy.

Away from work, Dr. Lotufo enjoys exploring the outdoors with his wife, Maite and their 3 children, Sebastian, Valerie, and Lucas. His hobbies include gardening, fishing and marine reef aquariums. In addition, he is fluent in Spanish. He and his family have made their new home in Ooltewah.
