CSMO Welcomes Dr. Benjamin Geddes

Benjamin Geddes M.D., is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Spine surgeon who specializes in the treatment of all spine conditions in both adult and pediatric patients.

Dr. Geddes is an Ohio native and an avid Buckeyes fan. He attended Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Ohio State Dr. Geddes was the CoCaptain of the rowing team. He graduated cum laude with honors and was accepted to Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. While in medical school Dr. Geddes was able to combine his two passions, patient care and innovation, resulting in two patented devices which are used in the operating room.

He was accepted into the Orthopaedic Surgery residency program at Yale University. He authored numerous journal articles and book chapters and presented at conferences during his residency. Dr. Geddes performed scoliosis surgeries on children with severe spinal deformities while on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic. Experiences such as these ultimately led Dr. Geddes to further specialize in complex spine surgery.

His final year of training was spent doing an adult and pediatric spine fellowship at the Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky. He had the privilege of training under both orthopaedic spine surgeons as well as neurosurgeons. Dr. Geddes was trained in a diverse set of surgical techniques during his fellowship, from large scoliosis surgery to minimally invasive techniques that utilize navigation and robotics.

In his spare time Ben enjoys running, playing golf, and spending time with his family. Ben and his wife, Rachel, have three young children: Matilda, Graham, and Daphne.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join such a fantastic team at the Center for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics! I feel that my diverse surgical skill set and passion for spine care will complement an already outstanding team of experts. Although my family is not from Tennessee, we absolutely fell in love with Chattanooga the first time we visited. I look forward to treating patients in this community for many years to come.” – Dr. Ben Geddes
