At Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics, we have long known that Dr. Jason Robertson is a remarkable physician, mentor, educator, and advocate for athletes and athletic trainers alike. Today, we are proud to celebrate a well-deserved honor that recognizes the impact he has made throughout Tennessee and beyond.

Dr. Robertson has been named the 2026 Tennessee Athletic Trainers Society (TATS) Sports Medicine Person of the Year, one of the organization’s highest honors. The award recognizes individuals who are not athletic trainers themselves but who have made extraordinary contributions to sports medicine and have significantly influenced and supported the athletic training profession.

This recognition reflects what so many athletes, patients, colleagues, and athletic trainers have experienced firsthand throughout Dr. Robertson’s career: a relentless commitment to serving others, advancing sports medicine, and investing in the success of those around him.

A Career Dedicated to Athletes and Sports Medicine

Since completing his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Alabama Sports Medicine Institute, Dr. Robertson has built an impressive career caring for athletes at every level. He has served as a team physician for the University of Alabama, professional baseball organizations, SEC championship events, and currently serves as team physician for the Chattanooga Lookouts, Chattanooga Red Wolves, and Boyd-Buchanan School. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and Co-Medical Director of the Graduate Athletic Training Program at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Robertson has devoted countless hours to teaching, mentoring future healthcare professionals, and supporting athletic trainers throughout their careers. His influence extends well beyond the exam room and sidelines.

More Than a Physician

While Dr. Robertson’s professional accomplishments are extensive, those who nominated him emphasized that his greatest impact comes from who he is as a person.

For more than two decades, Dr. Robertson has been known for his accessibility, humility, compassion, and unwavering support of athletic trainers and patients. Whether caring for an injured athlete, mentoring a young professional, or volunteering his expertise in underserved communities around the world, he consistently leads through service.

As one nominator noted, Dr. Robertson embodies the spirit of servant leadership, making himself available whenever he is needed and putting the needs of others before his own.
